Hearts Beat Loud – Movie Poster Redesign & Expansion
Category: Poster Design & Film Branding
Design Brief
The goal of this project was to redesign a movie poster for Hearts Beat Loud, an indie film about a father and daughter whose shared love of music helps them stay close after the loss of a loved one. I wanted the poster to reflect the emotional connection at the heart of the story, and to bring in elements of my own visual style.
This project was focused on using compositing techniques - including masking, adjustment layers, blending modes and typography to create a poster that felt original and expressive. While most of the work was done in Photoshop, I used Affinity Photo to build the radial vinyl record design that became the central image.

About the Redesign
The original poster for Hearts Beat Loud is colorful and upbeat, with a focus on the two lead characters playing music together. While it captures the joy in their relationship, I felt it didn’t reflect the full emotional range of the story, which includes loss, change and the quiet strength of their connection.
The central image in the poster is a radial design created from screenshots of the film, arranged to form the shape of a vinyl record. This design not only references the record store that plays a key role in the story, but also serves as a visual metaphor for how music holds memories and emotions over time.

Design Change: Album on White
This alternate design was created for use on the movie's website. By placing the vinyl and sleeve on a white background, I shifted the focus while keeping the visual language connected to the poster.

Design Change: Turntable Design (social media)
For social media, I developed a more lifestyle-oriented version of the design. The turntable and headphones suggest a personal listening experience, staying true to the film's quiet emotional core.
